Apparently I've very claustrophobic ...
Tried to do the MRI today, but I've never had one done and did not realize how tight it was going to be.  I couldn't hack it, not for 40 minutes anyway. Anyway, I'm rescheduled for another one and they will try and sedate me.  I'll keep everyone advised.

Oh, man, I feel for you. I had an MRI done for a problem with my right ear. Having your face stuffed in a cage and shoved into a tube wasn't my idea of fun. I did make it through, though. Not something I'm gonna try again anytime soon.

ew. that sounds even less fun than needing one in the first place. this is one of those moments where i'm very thankful for the titanium plates in my jaws - I cant have MRI's as a result of the metal.

Good luck next time.

Duke Hospital used to have an open MRI-room for claustrophobic people. I don't know what the wait-list for that is, but you might check and see if that's an option for you, if you're okay driving up to Durham...

You might also look into an open MRI. I knwo there is no way in hell I could do one of the traditional ones. Let us know when it will be and I'll send you lots of good thoughts.

I hope you can handle the re-try for your MRI. I have a friend who says that she falls asleep in the machine.
I don't, instead I listen to the water moving around in my head.
It's pretty strange, but it seems to be safe.

Oh, yes, rather claustrophobic. I listened to the rhythm of the machine for the time that I had to be in it. It's pretty bad if you're not fond of closed spaces.

For me, it wasn't the claustrophobic feeling that got me... it was the sound of the machine, like I was trying to use a jackhammer for a pillow. They gave me earplugs, but there's just no blocking out that noise.

No, there's no blocking it, even with the earplugs. That's why I let my musical sense wander and see if it couldn't make something of the matter.

Whoof. That's a long time to be in an MRI. They had to give me one for gallbladder surgery, but I don't recall it taking nearly that long. Either that or I was completely spaced out on drugs...

I hated getting an MRI. I am with you on that Jamie. I could barely hold still, myself. (Mine was for an ear problem as well.)

No change in your vision?
