I'm really happy about the outcome of the North Carolina and Virginia senate races. The presidential race in those states is gravy -- the congressional races are the meat.

On the other hand, that three former Confederate states have returned electoral slates favoring an African-American for president does say a lot for how far we've come as a nation. I've been so busy focusing on the short-term political ramifications of the election that I haven't thought a lot about what it says about the fundamentals of our society yet. Been too busy celebrating, the sober reflection will come later.
